The Health Center actively participates in the university’s graduate and postgraduate education by providing theoretical and practical training in the field of veterinary, medical and health sciences.
The Institute of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiation Oncology of the Kaposvár University was established in 1989. The leading edge cross-sectional diagnostic imaging technology is used in health care as well as in animal science research. In this field the institute occupies a leading position in Hungary, and through the development of several innovative radiation therapy methods it has also gained international recognition. Its cooperation with Harvard University stands out in its network of scientific relations. A unique area of research is the application of non-invasive methods in animal food production, such as the selection for higher meat yields, developing an alternative technology for producing goose liver, studying the relationship between nutrition and meat quality. Research conducted in the field of veterinary diagnostics is also important, for instance studying the pathomechanism of various pathogenic diseases, but zoological species are also studied here. The introduction of computer tomography in geological sciences is also worth mentioning, since it can be extensively used from the exploration of hydrocarbons to the geophysical description of underground storages for radioactive wastes.
